How Many Times?

Who are the greatest communicators in the world?
Speakers?
Writers?
Copywriters?
Salespeople?
Teachers?
No!
It’s none of those…
It’s kids…
Think about it…
How many times, and how many ways will a young child ask for something they want?
(Look how happy that little girl in the picture is…she got her juice box because she didn’t stop asking)
The answer is…
As many as it takes…
They are persistent, consistent and they do not stop asking!
It starts with “can I have”, then they add a “please”, then a few “pleases” (or a “but please”), then they try “I love you”. If those don’t work, then they start with “why” – how many ways are there to ask why?
After that, bargaining begins. “If you buy that for me, I’ll ____________.”
And, they start early – this is happening almost as soon as they can talk. At 2 and 3 years old.
It might be for a cookie, or a toy, or a variety of other things.
What is this?
It’s the sales process…
What’s the difference between the child’s sales process and yours?…
You give up long before they do!
You get one no, and you stop asking. You give up!
The child is just getting started at the first no.
And, by the way, when they say no…they aren’t saying no to you, so don’t take it personally (more on that in the future).
You have to keep asking. Ask in different ways. Ask again. Follow up.
You have many more tools than a child has, but you give up faster than they do.
A child doesn’t hear no…
Why do you?
You have many more bargaining tools than a child does…
Use them.
Be Persistent!
Keep at it!
There’s a Yes behind that no…
