It’s Called Self-Esteem… Nicey Nash, Part 2

Last week, I shared part of Niecy Nash’s acceptance speech from the Emmy awards show.
She talked about being a winner and she thanked herself. It was powerful! If you haven’t listened to it, I suggest you do – it will be worth the one minute and fourteen seconds of your time.
What was just as powerful was what Nicey said when she answered a reporter after the show. The reporter asked her why it was important for her to thank herself.
This is what she said…
“Because I’m the only one who knows what it costs me. I’m the only one who knows how many nights I cried because I couldn’t be seen for a certain type of role… And so, I’m proud of myself. I’m proud that I did something that people said I could not do. Because I believed in me. And sometimes people don’t believe in themselves. And I hope my speech was a delicious invitation for people to do just that. Believe in yourself and congratulate yourself. Sometimes you got to encourage what? Yourself! And that’s why it’s not called mama esteem, them esteem,
us esteem. It’s called self-esteem because don’t nobody got to believe it, but you!”
Self-esteem. Something most of us have probably struggled with at some point in our lives… maybe even now.
If you don’t believe in yourself, who will?
It’s hard sometimes.
And sometimes, we’re lucky enough to have somebody in our lives that believes in us or sees us where we can be instead of where we are. That can be a huge help. If you don’t have that, then you just have to start with what you do have – you.
Only you know what it costs you… only you know your struggles.
When you believe in yourself, and overcome those struggles, then you can tell your story – if you choose to – and you can inspire others.
The key is…
… don’t quit… don’t give up!
Keep going!
If you keep going, your self-esteem and confidence will grow and keep growing. Pretty soon, you’ll believe in yourself no matter what happens.
You can overcome anything!
Believe in yourself! Afterall, nobody has to believe it but you!!
If you feel like you need somebody who believes in you before you do or somebody who sees you where you can be instead of where you are now, that’s one of the things I give my coaching clients – everyday!!!
