Now What?

The Olympics are over and as inspired as I was by all of – like I always am – the thing that hit me the most is how many parallels can be drawn in the games and business… in the athletes and an entrepreneur.
The graphic sums up the United States achievements during these games – at least in numbers. You can get a pretty good idea of how successful the team was by looking at the numbers. For example, 43% of the athletes medaled… pretty darn good.
And, like in business, the numbers are important, and they tell a story (not the story).
The numbers are part of the story – in business, they tell us a lot and are extremely important.
They aren’t the whole story.
In the games, if all you saw were the numbers, you’d miss the individual stories, the struggles some athletes have to get to the games, the photo finishes, the last second wins and losses, the excitement and so much more.
In business, if the numbers are all you use to drive and grow your business, you miss out on the same things – the people, the connections, the relationships… the thing that makes business at least as valuable as the money it brings in – at least some of us feel that way.
There’s always more than what appears on the surface.
In business, and in life, it usually pays to dig a little deeper.
Every story has a story!
What’s yours?
